A view to a kill: the best 007 hotels from the Spectre filming locations

By , 22nd October 2015

This year’s most hotly anticipated film is almost upon us: Spectre. So what better way to get into the spirit of 007 himself than with our carefully chosen James Bond hotels?

Bond‘s latest adventure will take him around the world and – as ever – we’re sure he’ll be travelling in style. The latest instalment of the franchise promises to be huge, with a budget of over £130 million and an opening sequence in Mexico City featuring over 1500 extras.

To mark the release of the film, we’ve hand-picked our hotel choices from the Spectre filming locations and we’re curious to see just where 007 checks into…

The London Edition

London, United Kingdom

London luxury hotels for men: London Edition

Bond may have remained virtually ageless after all these years, but that isn’t to say he hasn’t received a few updates – much like the timeless Edition Hotel in London. Exuding an aristocratic yet contemporary feel, the Edition boasts an impressive cocktail bar in the lobby, which features high-vaulted ceilings and is overlooked by a small gallery – perfect for a martini (shaken, not stirred).

The hotel’s elegant Loft Suite offers all the luxury we’ve come to expect from Bond; the room boasts a rooftop terrace with sweeping views over London, a bathroom featuring a rainforest shower as well as a sumptuous King-size bed. And if that isn’t enough to make you feel like a secret agent, the hotel also has two secret rooms: a nightclub called Basement and a Victorian Gentleman’s Club.

El Minzah Hotel

Tangiers, Morocco

Morocco luxury hotels: El Minzah

A perfect location for going off the grid, the El Minzah Hotel in Tangiers was opened by a British aristocrat in 1930 and has since seen some high-profile travellers pass through its doors. Artfully blending the traditional and the indulgent, the hotel is decorated in a magnificent Arabesque style, featuring North African woodwork, oriental carpets and authentic arched doorways. Guests can also enjoy al-fresco dining on the Andalusian patio, which has a Mediterranean feel and plenty of old-world charm.

Boscolo Exedra Roma

Rome, Italy

Luxury hotels Rome

Spectre will see Bond visiting Rome for the first time – and where better to enjoy the Eternal City from than the Boscolo Exedra Roma hotel? Located on the Piazza della Repubblica, the five-star hotel is a perfect launching pad for exploring the city. Much like the city itself, the hotel has a rich history – hosting important remains of the Baths of Diocletian, as well as neighbouring an impressive basilica designed by Michelangelo.

Rooftop pool Rome: Boscolo Extrada

Guestrooms at the hotel are chic and sophisticated, while the grand and imposing lobby is decorated in an ornate classical style. However, for the real MI6-factor, why not take a dip in the rooftop infinity pool while enjoying the view of the Roman skyline – for your eyes only.

Bergland

Sölden, Austria

James Bond hotels: Bergland, Austria

Filming saw a large chunk of the cast and crew of Spectre resting up at Bergland while hiking through the Austrian Alps in Tirol back in January 2015. And it’s easy to see why: an impressive design hotel with a tranquil spa complex, the hotel is a perfect place for relaxing after an action-packed day.

Bergland suite

While the sleek Sky Spa offers a wide range of luxury treatments in a stylish setting, the hotel’s rooms and suites have a much more rustic feel. Natural materials such as wood, stone, felt and wool are used to give guestrooms a cosy and intimate feel typical of the Alps: a nice way to unwind after a high-speed ski chase.

Downtown Hotel

Mexico City, Mexico

James Bond hotels: Downtown

Found in one of the oldest residences in Mexico City, Downtown Hotel has a real sense of grandeur, with many original colonial features. Boasting stripped-back elements such as exposed brickwork, stone masonry and Gothic staircases, the hotel has an understated elegance while still being a bit rough around the edges – just like Bond himself.

Rooftop pools Mexico: Downtown

The hotel features a rooftop terrace and pool overlooking the city’s historic centre, while the 17 individually-designed rooms each have a simple, bohemian vibe – perfect for laying low and hiding in plain sight.
